Artis and Columbia University School of the Arts treated us with a sneak peek of The Workshop, Gilad Ratman’s 2013 Venice Biennale project. Jon Kessler joined Ratman, his former student, for a discussion about the project. Listen up below…
Monday evening we opened Jon Kessler’s The Web and welcomed viewers into a virtual daydream on the verge. Here users feed their images directly into the installation, inserting both themselves and their creations into the site-specific techno-sphere.
MM Serra, downtown guru, film gatekeeper, and all around magic maker put together a provocative evening of film for the SI. We experienced the sensual, the gritty, the in your face- we watched the saturated psychedelia of Jud Yalkut featuring Yayoi Kusama; the sublime horror of T, O, U, C, H, I, N, G by Paul Sharits; and the whisper-like self portrait of Kyle Beechey. It all left us wanting more, more film, more Film-Maker’s Coop, and definitely more work of MM Serra.
Last week we gathered for an adventure, one which began in 1964 and continued forward to our opening on Friday night; it then took a turn towards discussion on Saturday afternoon with artists Servane Mary, Olivier Mosset, Jacob Kassay, and Director Gianni Jetzer. The story continues as the galaxy expands on and on and on.
