Yves Scherer: Honey Moon | Time Out New York
Oct 05 2015
The work of this Swiss artist who calls New York home has been described as “Post-Internet art,” a buzzy critical rubric meant to denote an interest not in digital technology per se, but rather in the psychological and behavioral impact of the web on society and self-hood. Scherer’s most obvious expressions in this regard are his classical nude sculptures of Emma Watson, based on scores of photos of the Harry Potter heroine downloaded from the net. Inspired, according to the artist, by the actor’s feminist activism, these objects are a creepy combination of kitsch and cyberstalking made concrete. In this show, he portrays Watson as a mermaid sitting on a Thai beach.
