Performance | Roman Signer: Pendel (Pendulum)
Wed | 7pm
To commence the celebrations of Swiss Institute’s 30th anniversary year, please join us for a newly-commissioned performance by Roman Signer. Since the early seventies, Signer has focused his research on a new concept of sculpture connected to process, transformation and movement. He creates “experiments”, actions and kinetic installations, for which he employs common everyday objects, natural elements like sand, water, wind, fire and real explosions. At Swiss Institute, Signer will debut Pendel (Pendulum), 2016, a new performance and installation created for this occasion.
Roman Signer (b. Appenzell, Switzerland, 1938) lives and works in St. Gallen. He studied at the Schule für Gestaltung, Zurich and Luzern, and Fine Arts Academy, Warsaw. Notable solo exhibitions and screenings include Museo d’Arte Provincia di Nuoro, Nuoro (2016); Centre Culturel Suisse, Paris (2015), Kunstemuseum St. Gallen, St Gallen (2014); Rice University Art Gallery, Houston (2013); Kunsthalle Mainz, Mainz (2012); Häusler Contemporary, Munich (2012); Switzerland Institute of Modern Art, Zürich (2011); and Swiss Institute, New York (2010).
