New Humans Collective live at SI.
The SI is pleased to announce the collaboration of the New Humans Collective + Red Shoe Delivery Service at our booth at the 2004 Armory Show!
The New Humans Collective pep rally will rouse the halls of the Armory Show and the Red Shoe Delivery Service shuttle will magically move you between the SI and the Armory Show
New Humans performances are characterized by graphic visual elements that nod to minimalist sculpture and Op-Art, intersected with experimental music as a complete synesthetic experience.
Each installation is an investigation of the exhibition space; the orientation of the performer and viewer; and the relationship between space, time, sound, and color. Their physical installations spatialize and reference the patterned and fractured sound compositions. The minimalist impulse coupled with deconstructive tendencies create raw and improbable compositions of disparate tones, noise and color. Repetitive patterning, collapse of boundary and object, and the unraveling of seriality over time are continuing visual and aural motifs.
RED SHOE DELIVERY SERVICE a project by MK Guth and friends is an interdisciplinary project reconfiguring the idea of Dorothy's Ruby Slippers in order to create an interactive art experience while providing people with a practical service.
The RSDS project offers people rides to their desired destination. In exchange riders are asked to don a pair of red glittery shoes, click their heels, and say THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE the location they wish to go. RSDS then delivers them there. Video, photographs and audio files are collected before, during and after the ride. In the RSDS video participants click their heels and in a spiral of red glitter they are magically transported to where they what to go.
RSDS' desire is to involve as many people as possible in an art experience and in the processes of making art. When a person chooses to ride with RSDS they participate in an art project while influencing its development. What results is a work of artthat directly reflects the collaboration between the artist and the participants of RSDS.
In addition to the SI Armory booth project, on Friday, March 12, New Humans will perform a new site-specific project at the S I featuring a design collaboration by Mika Tajima and United Bamboo:

MK Guth is a multidisciplinary artist working in video, photography and sculpture. Her work infects the everyday with mythic language. In an 2003 Art News article reviewer Barbara Pollack described Guth's Video " I Want to Hold Your Hand" as "Brilliant."
