Jeanne Tara (b. 1994 Ambilly, lives and works in Geneva) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans sculpture, painting, video and installation. Through these different media, Tara leads sensitive reflections nourished by notions of gesture and transmission. Taking as a starting point their subjective experience of public space, they explore architectural manifestations as symbols of power and authority scattered throughout the environment, and examine how this network of signs conditions our experiences and realities, becoming possible sources of division. Tara probes how hegemonic culture operates, not only through language, but also through forms and aesthetics. In their work, they oppose dominant discourses and subversive narratives in order to question our cultural and social commonalities. Tara trained in ballet and contemporary dance before turning to visual arts. They studied at HEAD Geneva and then at ERG Brussels. Tara has presented their work at Halle Nord, Geneva; Pública Espacio Cultural, San Juan, Puerto Rico; Museo Casa Rusca, Locarno; Centre d’Art Contemporain, Geneva; DBKAPADDOCK, Brussels; Andata.Ritorno, Geneva; Jungkunst, Winterthur; and numerous other venues.
