Tania Ximena (b. 1985 in Hidalgo, Mexico. Lives and works between San Pedro Nexapa and Mexico City) is a visual artist and filmmaker. She is a member of the National System of Art Creators (2022-2025). Her work is the result of long-term field research in territories with multiple ecological, social and cultural layers, seeking to investigate the effect that certain natural and climatic phenomena produce in the lives of those who inhabit these territories. She is a graduate of the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving, La Esmeralda. She has participated in various courses and seminars on documentary film, direction and scriptwriting. Among her solo exhibitions are Río de Niebla, Río de Adobe, Río de Sangre at the Museo Exteresa Arte Actual (2023-2024) and Antes del Presente, Casa del Lago Juan José Arreola (2018) and collective exhibitions such as The XV FEMSA Biennial, León, Mexico, La Oficina del Agua, Bienal Sur, Argentina (2021), Normal Exceptions Museo Jumex Arte Contemporáneo (2021), Parasitage, Ruidos Negros, Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil (2021), Years of Solitude II Orleans Architecture Biennial, France (2019, among others. She has received awards such as the Jumex Arte Contemporáneo Foundation (2023 and 2019), the Mexican Film Promotion Program of the Mexican Institute of Cinematography (2024 and 2022), the Production Support Fund of the Uni- versity Museum of Contemporary Art, (2020), BBVA-MACG Program (2018-2020), FONCA Jóvenes Creadores (2016, 2010 and 2007) among others. His first hybrid fiction documentary feature film POBO TZU – Noche Blanca (2021), received awards such as the Kaleidoscope Grand Jury Prize at DOC NYC, ZANATE Grand Prize at the Zanate Festival, among others. Her work is part of various public and private collections.
